1859 cover addressed care of a Doctor at the British Museum, forwarded to Oxford, from St Petersbourg, Russia with diamond framed despatch on reverse which also displays a Gt Russell St, a red London and an Oxford cds, on forwarding envelope to Oxford a 1d. red has been added over ‘PORTO’ handstamp with fine ‘7 1/2 ‘ charge handstamp alongside. Torn bottom flap to envelope otherwise fine and scarce.

1859-1860 Three items with entire to Bordeaux with OUTRE-MER PAVILLAC date stamp, charged at 60c. as no indication of origin, so charge international rate, envelope with Direction De La Poste Aux Lettres St Louis Senegal hand stamp and ‘COL FR ANGL AMB CALAIS’ date stamp and entire similarly handstamped, without the PD but same maritime cancel.

1860 (8th April) outer letter sheet to London pre paid with a British 6d lilac showing a manuscript cancel, endorsement at top with date, red London Paid cds at centre, reverse with small Grenada cds. This must be one of the last letters to be franked this way as all British stamps were withdrawn on 1st May.
1860 (Dec 15) orange-buff envelope to Hannover bearing 3c. Washington (Sc. 26) block of four and single all cancelled by red circular open grids, matching N.York ‘Paid 10’ Hamb. Pkt credit exchange cds, reverse with Hamburg transit and Pollearrival. One 3c. with trimmed perfs and no bottom backflap but still a very fine, rare use of 18513c. block of four and single to pay 15c. Bremen-Hamburg treaty rate.
