Franked at the long distance internal rate of 10k despite being a short distance and this one is the only such overfranked cover recorded.

1856 entire to Vienna, Austria, franked pair 4d. on blue paper, watermark medium garter, tied '634' numeral obliterators, red Aus England Per Aachen Franco date stamp, reverse with blue OLDBURY cds, Birmingham and London transits and arrival cds.
1856 envelope to Sydney franked 6d. Embossed, margins clear to touched, with barred numeral ‘23’ cancel, tied by ‘1d’ handstamp for local fee to Singleton. Manuscript note at left “3rd Secry. Mr. Russell, Paris” could indicate carried privately to UK. Full Oliva certificate.
1857 (23 Dec) unpaid entire with part contents to Constantinople, endorsed “voie de Trieste” bearing central St Gallen cds and a very fine strike of rare framed tax mark ‘3 – 5/ 2 – 20’ for 3 piastres 5 paras Swiss/Postal Union fee and 2 piastres 20 para postage beyond Trieste, to be paid by the recipient, reverse with Trieste Abends transit (26/12) and arrival cds of 8/1.
1857 (25-2) outer letter sheet to Paris franked 1856-58 25r. with good large margins cancelled ‘1’ in horizontal bars with framed Lisboa date stamp to left, French rate handstamp and entry cds, reverse with Pyrennes A Paris tpo and arrival cds.
1857 (Apr 16) orange-buff envelope addressed to “Secretary of Legation of the U.S., Madrid, Spain” franked with 1853-55 3c. dull red (Sc 11) in two vertical pairs (left-hand pair with touched margins at right), blue cork cancels and matching Picolata Fla date stamp, circular framed PP and red London Paid, double-ring Madrid cds, various manuscript rate markings including “2 pesetas”. The envelope is rebacked front with repaired corners, The Philatelic Foundation certificate.
