1883 (MR 22) envelope to Tokio, Japan, endorsed “By P&O Steamer” franked Great Britain 1880 2d. pale rose in both horizontal and vertical pairs each tied by fine ‘A25’ duplex, Singapore and Yokohama backstamps. 1883 (MY 1) small envelope to Lisbon showing framed ‘PER FR. PACKET’ handstamp at top on front, whilst on reverse fine condition double-ring Macao cds and PAGO/ EM/ MACAO crown circle plus arrival cds of 11 Jun. The vast majority of mail from Macao to Europe was routed via Hong Kong, and transported in one of the P&O Steamers, only occasionally was mail handed to the French packets.
1883 (Oct. 7) ‘The Eastern Telegraph Company’ printed Telegram envelope registered to Mauritius bearing mixed issue India franking of 1865 2a. brown-orange and 1882-90 3a brown-orange with two ‘B’ within bars cancels, Aden cds to left and four-line dated Registration handstamp, ‘R’ in circle bottom right and to left red oval Registered Mauritius. The envelope has had a new corner added at bottom right, a rare mixed franking.
1883 cover to Buffalo, NY, redirected to New Haven bearing single-franking Watermark Crown CA, perf 12 4d. tied by ‘B’ obliterator, this being oversturck by Buffalo cork duplex, reverse with A/Bahamas cds, New York transit, Buffalo transit and arrival cds. The stamp has rounded bottom right corner and envelope a little roughly opened on reverse. Including the letter written on Dec 23rd from Royal Victoria Hotel.
1883 cover to Dover bearing single franking GB 2½d, FJ, pl.23, tied duplex. A heavier double rate cover so 'T' applied and a 'type 2' ship '2' applied in error, this being over-struck with a barred oval. The '5' handstamp was applied in Dover; some slight toning and stamp perfs damaged as overlapping envelope.
1883 duplicate entire to London bearing single franking 4d. greyish slate tied by A Grenada AU 07 83 cds, with further strike to left, arrival backstamp.
1883 envelope with imprinted albino seal on backflap ‘Secretaria De Hacienda’, addressed to Paris routed through Colon to connect with the “Ville de Brest” bound for St. Nazaire. Front bears red French maritime octagonal Panama-Union * Paq.F.A.No.1 * date stamp (Salles 1415a/1) with blue arrival alongside. Rare and early Official cover. Ex Schatykes.
1883, uprated 5kop stationery envelope with 2x1kop (1866 issue-horizontally laid paper) tied by Moscow cds, posted to Riga and redirected to Libava. Reverse shows TPO 85 serial 3 of Riga Muravyevo railway line, dated 14 January 1883. Earliest known date of this railway line by Kiryushkin-Robinson is 17 November 1883.
1884 (18 Avril) cover to Hamburg franked mixed issue franking of General Colony issues with 1872-77 30c Ceres imperf vertical pair with good margins and Allegory 15c. tied Rufisque Senegal date stamps with another strike to left, unclear maritime date stamp on front, arrival backstamp; heavy central filing crease otherwise a fine mixed issue commercial cover.
1884 (26 Mars)folded outer letter sheet to Rouen, endosred “Voie Anglaise”, franked 1884 ‘25’ on 35c., type III ‘large 5’, large to just touched margins, tied by Pointe-A-Pitre cds with another strike alongside. Merchants handstamp at centre and arrival backstamp. Roumet handstamp.

Volcano cancelled by solitary negative cork ‘star’, red despatch cds to left, Italian transit and arrival backstamps; light central filing crease and envelope slightly reduced at top affecting printed seal

1884 (Apr 20) cover to Birmingham, franked 1881 1c. Quetzal (2) each with heavy central segmented cork cancel and left hand stamp tied by CORREOS DE GUATEMALA date stamp, Sparbrook arrival backstamp; damaged bottom right corner, rare.
1884 (FE 2) 1d. postal stationery card to Lake Superior, Michigan, USA, cancelled by barred'C' with very fine red British Post Office Constantinople code C cds; long message on reverse.

1884 (MY 3) large cover (edge faults) to Lew Down, Devon, headed "from W. Lockbert CC, HMS Swiftsure, Pacific" and countersigned by the Commanding Officer, but presumably over the 1/2 oz. so paid at the full civilian rate of 4d., a Great Britain 1d. lilac strip of four cancelled C35 obliterators, A Panama cds of British Post Office just below. The Panama office closed in 1881 and these cancels were only used in transit thereafter. Faults to the envelope do not detract from a very unusual and scarce cover from a British naval ship in the Pacific
1884 (MY 30) entire to Puebla, Mexico franked 1880-83 4d. grey-brown, JI, plate 18 and 1881 1d. lilac, Die II, paying the late fee tied ‘L.S./5’ L1 Lombard St. London duplex, reverse with New York F.D. transit and Correos Puebla arrival; light vertical and horizontal filing creases clear of adhesives.
