1872 (26 Janv) outer letter sheet to Havre franked 1871 80c Laureated Napoleon and 1871 Ceres 20c and 40c tied by two MQE lozenges, Martinique St. Pierre cds to left ad at right red French Le Havre entry cds of 12 Fevr for mail arriving from England. The cover was collected by ‘Eider’ and delivered to St Thomas on 28th, transferred the next day to ‘Nile’ which arrived in Plymouth on 10th February. Margin faults to stamps, still an attractive early three colour franking, Ex Brian Brookes.

1872 (28/6) outer letter sheet from Copenhagen to Landskrona, Sweden franked by pair 1871 3sk lilac and grey, perf 14 x 13½, only cancelled on arrival; very fine quality with Lasse Nielsen Certificate.
1872 (3 Aug) cover to Switzerland bearing single franking Small Shield 7Kr. tied Carlsruhe cds, arrival backstamp; slight ageing at left side and stamp with rounded top left corner.
1872 (5 Janv) folded entire to Berlin franked by two Small Shield ½Gr. orange-red tied by single three-line BREMEN/ -5/1 III/ GM.-HVR train post cancel for the Bremen – Hannover line, arrival backstamp; central vertical filing crease clear of stamps, one with slightly rounded corner and slight oxidisation, an unrecorded cancel on this issue. 1872 (Jun 26) 3c. postal stationery envelope to Montreux, Switzerland, uprated 1870-71 1c. ‘Franklin’ and 3c. ‘Washington’ cancelled by segmented cork handstamps, San Francisco despatch cds and New York Via England & Ostend transit, at centre straight-line ‘INSUFFICIENTLY PAID’ and ‘VIA OSTENDE’, blue manuscript “15”, red “35” charge on arrival (The U.S. 3c deficiency is equivalent to 15c and then a 20c. penalty added). Basel transit and arrival cds; some small tears repaired at top.
1872 cover to LONDON franked 2 x 10k. tied oval-framed 'POST SEGEWOLD/18' date stamp without manuscript centre, this handstamp repeated on reverse but with the manuscript date. RIGA transit cds and red oxidised 'PD' and 'AUS RUSSLAND uber BUR.XI EDK.BRG'., LONDON arrival cds; small fault at top of envelope and without backflap.
1872 entire to Nueva York, endorsed “Via de Inglaterra” franked 1870 ‘Espana’ 400m. tied rhomboid of dots, Barcelona cds alonside partly overstruck by London PAID transit, N.Y. Steamship 3 cds below for local carriage.
1872 outer letter sheet to Alexandrie ( refolded to show backstamps) franked 1872-90 5r. blue with light blue unclear cancel, Lattakia cds in blue on reverse; with some faults.
1872 outer letter sheet to Berlin franked 20r. and 120r. tied '1' numerals with Lisboa cds in association, arrival backstamp; light vertical filing crease otherwise good condition
1872 outer letter sheet to Stockholm, Sweden, endorsed “Via New York” and showing blue framed Aus Westindien/ uber New York handstamp, New York 7 transit at right showing the portion owing to Bremen, manuscript “8½“ (Gr) and “99” Ore, reverse with blue Bremen cds (inverted day of month) and arrival cancel. All of the similar mail known emanated from Cuba.

1872 small envelope to Galsgow, Scotland franked Small Shield 2Kr orange and 7Kr blue tied by single framed Carlsruhe in Baden/ Bahnhof date stamp, red framed P. D. handstamp at left, Glasgow backstamp of OC22 and Hillhead arrival; some slight overall ageing and minor envelope faults.
1873 (13/1) cover to Andover, Mass., USA bearing single franking 2½Gr. tied double-ring Tharant cds, red straight-line FRANCO and New York Paid All cds; some slight faults to edges of envelope.
1873 (2 Avril) charge cover to Marseille franked 1871-76 Ceres 5c. block of four and 40c. horizontal pair cancelled/tied by four dotted lozenges with Guadeloupe Moule cds alongside, two CHARGE handstamps and framed handstamp on reverse, maritime cancels front and back, Paris transit and arrival backstamps; some faults with horizontal filing crease affecting one 40c., the other 40c with rounded bottom left corner and top right 5c. with rounded corner, still a fine franking.
1873 (24 Oct) cover to Aden, endorsed “Via Brindisi” franked 1871-75 Ceres 25c. pair and 80c. tied gros chiffres ‘549’ with Boulogne-S-Mer cds in association, red framed PD, reverse with French transits and Aden .Steamer.Point arrival cds.
1873 (24th Oct) entire to Genova annotated to be carried by the “Liguria”, this ship had left Buenos Aires on Sept 15th and passed through Gibraltar. The cover has been prepaid in Gibraltar by ½d. and 1d. Great Britain that remained uncancelled and not considered valid by the Italian Post Office who applied a 40c postage due charge. Fine and unusual.
1873 (25 2) insured cover for 30 Thaler bearing single franking Small Shield 5Gr. tied Stargard I. Pomm. Cds, arrival backstamp on next day; some slight faults to envelope with red wax seals removed.
